XCI SmartZone ControlsToday’s homes require special consideration in order to maintain uniform comfort throughout.  Ideally, there should be no more than a 2°F temperature difference between any two rooms at any given time according to the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA).

One of the most popular residential applications for zoning is a bonus room or FROG (finished room over garage).  Without a separate zone thermostat, comfort is impossible in a bonus room.  The constant year round complaint about Bonus Rooms without a thermostat is, “It’s Too Hot”.

Rambling floor plans where rooms are exposed to morning or afternoon sun, present special indoor temperature control problems.  Maybe you just want your master bedroom to be cooler than the rest of the house.  Zoning is the solution for desired climate control in each of these applications.

Commercial buildings have many of the same challenges as homes when it comes to maintaining comfort.  Often a large commercial heating/cooling unit provides heating and cooling for rooms with different comfort requirements.  For instance, an office with a southwest exposure will be affected by afternoon sun while offices on the opposite side of the building will be affected by morning sun.  Offices in the center core of the building are not affected by sunlight.  Heating and cooling requirements change throughout the day.

Computers, copiers and other office equipment can add heat to the room creating a greater need for cooling than other areas of the same size.  Not everybody is comfortable at the same temperature.  With zoning, private offices can have different temperatures within a reasonable range.

Zoning with multiple thermostats controlling a single heating/cooling unit is the solution for maintaining indoor temperature to fit individual needs.  Zoning provides ultimate comfort by providing heating and cooling where and when you desire by locating multiple zone thermostats in critical areas.

Net/X™ Wireless  Net/X™ Wired-XBUS  Net/X™ Wired-N2 Thermostats

Net/X™ Communicating thermostats allow full control and feedback of all functions and temperature readings on the thermostat.  Besides their world class functionality, the Net/X™ thermostat has a low profile, award winning design that blends well with any decor.

The Net/X™ Communicating thermostats are available in several models in order to meet the needs of various types of HVAC equipment in the marketplace.  All thermostats are manufactured in accordance with ISO9000 standards. The thermostats were designed with today's interiors in mind.  These solid state electronic thermostats use state-of-the-art surface mount manufacturing technology incorporated into an extremely low profile. 

All versions include the following standard features:  

  • Heating and Cooling Automatic Changeover
  • Full thermostat control, including buttons for Mode, Fan, set point adjustment, outdoor temperature and occupied/unoccupied
  • Built-in fan selector switch, short cycle protection, electronic calibration
  • Selectable Celsius or Fahrenheit temperature display
  • No battery is required, and set point data and mode of operation is retained following power outages of any duration.
  • All thermostat models can have multiple remote indoor sensors and one outdoor temperature sensors or one wet location sensor connected to them.

There are two columns of connectors on the thermostats. These connectors use the standard wiring and terminology for the HVAC industry. The feature connector, located on the left side of the thermostat back plate, has three main functions. They are the contact closure port, the remote sensor bus, and the communications bus.

The Remote Sensor Bus allows the connection of an outdoor sensor or a supply air sensor, and up to six remote indoor sensors or a return air duct sensors.

The Net/Xcommunications port allows for complete control and feedback of all functions of the thermostat.  There are four (4) models of the Net/X™ communicating thermostat.  All models offer full bi-directional control any of the family of Net/X™ Network Controllers through the RS-232 and Ethernet ports.

Net/X™ Network Controllers

Net/X Network ControllersThe Net/X family of Network Controllers is the heart of the NetworkThermostat HVAC control networks.  There are several different network controllers to satisfy the requirements of any installation.  The entire Net/X Network Controller family enables simple integration with any control system or personal computer.  The controllers accept simple ASCII commands using a published open protocol and replies with readable text answers.  The entire family of controllers has built-in intelligence to correct conflicting and illegal thermostat settings to prevent damage to equipment from programming errors.

All Net/X network controllers are commercial grade controllers, providing high reliability in any application.  The controllers include a real-time clock/calendar which allows simple, yet robust environment control.  The real-time clock/calendar is a significant importance to most of our customers.  It allows the Net/X system to run in a 'stand-alone' mode, where no other controller, PC or automation system is required for scheduling set points and modes of operation.   When used in combination with the Net/X Command Center software, simply point and click to create your schedules, then click to download them into the Net/X network controller, and you're done!  The thermostat schedules will run automatically at the time(s) designated.  There are also two versions of the controllers, the NT-SSA32/CLK Network Controller (for 16 or less thermostats) and the NT-SSA16/CLK Network Controller (for up to 32 thermostats)!   In addition, using the Net/X Command Center software allows you to monitor and control as many Net/X Network Controllers as needed for your site, no matter how large.


Net/X™ Wireless Solutions

Connect your Net/X™ thermostats wirelessly to the network from hundreds and hundreds of feet away.  These new modules are extremely valuable options that deliver flexibility, and reduce installation and set-up time.

Large or small, new construction, expansion or retrofit, our mesh-network wireless options make installation a snap.  Our innovative solution takes energy savings and efficiency to a new level.  Based on the IEEE standard 802.15.4 for wireless networks, our groundbreaking technology allows each Net/X™ wireless module to function as a device communications gateway and simultaneously as a repeater for the entire network, ensuring reliable transmission with ranges never before seen with wireless systems. 

Wireless Coordinator

Net/X Network ControllersYou can place the Wireless Coordinator Module (WCM-1) anywhere in the facility within 1,000 feet of the Network Controller.  This module interfaces the wireless thermostats to the entire network.  Each WCM-1 can coordinate up to 32 Net/X wireless thermostat modules, and you can have as many WCM-1 coordinators on the site as you have Network Controllers.  The sophistication of the electronics allows hundreds of thermostats to be controlled on the same site without interfering with each other or with other wireless systems.

Wireless Backplate Modules

Net/X Network ControllersEach Wireless Backplate Module (WBM-1) connects a Net/X™ thermostat to the WCM-1.  Simply install the backplate on the wall, connect the thermostat wires, push the link button to sync communications with the coordinator, and the installation is done!  Up to 32 wireless thermostats can be used with each Network Controller.


Net/X™ Remote Temperature Sensors

Net/X Network Controllers

Net/X provides an entire family of remote sensing products.  The NT-IDS, NT-DUCT, NT-ODT and NT-SUPPLY communicating temperature sensors are designed to work in conjunction with the Net/X™ thermostat family.  The remote sensor network allows multiple sensors to be connected in a daisy-chain manner to a Net/X thermostat.  The intelligence of the network includes automatic averaging if multiple sensors are connected.  The connected Net/X thermostat also automatically removes the temperature sensor internal to the thermostat from the temperature calculation.  This feature allows the thermostat(s) to be placed in a locked enclosure or a remote location (such as a closet) without the need to remove the Net/X thermostat's sensor.

The NT-IDS is the indoor temperature model that allows remote sensing of temperature in the occupied space, and the NT-DUCT and NT-SUPPLY include an 8" stainless steel probe & box for use at a return air duct and supply air plenum, respectively.  The NT-ODT is the outdoor temperature model that allows monitoring of the ambient outside temperature.  The NT-SUPPLY can be used in place of the outdoor sensor, allowing monitoring of the HVAC system's supply air temperature.  Integration with the Net/X™ thermostats is a simple three wire bus supplying power and data to the thermostat.  An external 10K sensor probe may be connected for complete versatility of environments.  Screw terminal connections are included for power, data, and external sensors.

Heat Pump Mini-splits

AmericaireThere are many applications where heating and cooling is required for areas separated from the main area.  This could include room additions such as sun rooms or bonus rooms above a garage that were finished after the home was constructed.  If the main central heating and cooling system capacity is adequate, a zone control system probable offers the best solution.  However, if the main heating and cooling system is not large enough to handle the additional conditioned space, a mini-split heat pump is an ideal low cost solution.

Mini-splits offer separate thermostat control for these areas which is absolutely necessary if comfort is to be achieved.  Merely adding additional ducts from the existing central heating and cooling system to remote areas or room additions simply will not provide comfort unless a thermostat is included.
